Snakehive iPhone 6s Case

Having owned a (completely useless) Samsung Galaxy S2 followed by an LG Nexus 5 (which got worse with every passing hour), 18 months ago I left the word of Android behind me and headed into the world of iOS; I picked myself up an iPhone 6s.

Now any sane person who spends their hard earned cash on an expensive smartphone will immediately head straight to the phone cases section and invest in something to protect the device which will remain glued to their right hand for the next few years. I was no different and grabbed myself a massively overpriced official iPhone 6s leather case from the Apple store.

Nearly 2 years on however my case has been through the wars and is scuffed and scratched. Time for something new. Enter Snakehive.

First impressions

First impressions count for a lot and seeing the Snakehive packaging for the first time created a very positive and lasting one. The phone case arrived in a sturdy box with the Snakehive logo and brand name printed on it. This was then wrapped in a Snakehive sleeve adding to the impression of quality.

Opening the box, the case was nicely presented in a sealed wrapper and looked great.

I did feel at this point like there was something missing from the box however. A small card containing both some product information and information about Snakehive and what they stand for would certainly reinforce their proposition and make it feel more special.

This would be especially important if you were buying this product as a gift for someone – from opening the box you simply wouldn’t know it was hand stitched for example.

Product quality

Taking the case out of the plastic wrapper, the first things that hit me were the high quality feel of the leather and the smell.

The outside of the case has a beautifully soft finish whilst the inside of the case has been finished completely smooth allowing my phone screen to stay protected.

Both the black and the brown leathers are soft to the touch however the black leather certainly offers a more suede like finish.

Reading Snakehive’s product information they state the following:

Crafted from carefully selected full grain cowhide leather from Europe…

It has a natural distressed matt leather outer covering which will age beautifully over time – revealing a darker smoother tone and a rich patina, which will reflect its use in everyday life.

I opted for the 2-tone black and brown combination case as I like a more classic and subtle design however Snakehive do offer 3 other more colourful variations if that’s what you’re into.

Case practicality

I don’t always like taking my bulky wallet out and about with me if I’m just heading down the shops or to the pub so having a leather wallet for my phone really is a practical accessory.

As shown, you can easily fit your most important 3 cards into the wallet – driving licence, bank card and of course your Nandos card. What can I say, I’m a classy guy.

There’s also a cash compartment underneath the card section which is really handy.

Case detailing

Designed in the UK and handcrafted exclusively for Snakehive in Europe, the case detailing is pretty special as it is hand stitched. So if you like the finer things in life you’ll love this case.

The stitching really is the feature that sets it aside from other competing designs. Effort has been made to ensure all aspects of the case contain the stitching element including the magnetic clasp.

Additionally the embossed Snakehive brand name and logo inside was a really nice touch that is subtle and blends comfortably into the product.

Overall impression

My overall impression of Snakehive’s iPhone 6s case has been a very positive one however as with most day to day things you really do need to give the product time to settle into your lifestyle before passing a firm judgement!

Key things I’ll be looking out for are whether the stitching starts to fray, if the magnetic clasp is too weak and if the glued layers of leather begin to separate.

I’ve had cases like this one in the past which have suffered from issues with the magnetic clasp not catching to the plastic shatterproof phone holder coming unstuck from the case. Time will tell. For now however I’m more than impressed.

The case looks great, it smells great and at just £16.95 offers great value. For a brand that I hadn’t previously heard of I really like what they’re about and their product. I’d more than recommend them and give them a solid 8/10.

A great quality product at a competitive price – go grab yourself one on the Snakehive website today.
