Cream Tea at The Flax & Twine, York

Yes I’m from Buckinghamshire and yes I am pretty middle class – that can only mean one thing… I am a sucker for a good cream tea!

Whilst on a city break in York Sarah and I passed a little shop on the Shambles called The Flax & Twine which was like most of these places in York, a shop on the ground floor and offered a cafe on the upper floors. The shop offers all sorts of things from antiques and vintage items to gifts and homeware.

From the street this wasn’t a venue I was particularly drawn to however the online reviews were pretty great and, well, there was a sign on the door offering cream tea’s for just £4.75 – deal done! With little to decide, Sarah and I made our way into the shop and up to the first floor cafe.

With good and drinks ordered, we eagerly awaited their arrival – cue excited faces…

And finally it arrived, Victoria sponge along with a fruit scone, strawberry jam and clotted cream.

Cream Tea at The Flax & Twine, York

Whilst in York we frequented quite a few cafes and I must say, overall this was the best cream tea I had. The scone was perfectly baked, the jam full of flavour and the clotted cream deliciously home made. Not only that but the room we were sat in was intimate, warm and inviting.
